The phrases that give away AI-written website copy
Language models have a house style. Here are the phrases and patterns that show up again and again on AI-built sites, and why counting them beats spotting one.
AI-written website copy has a recognisable voice. When someone asks an AI app builder for a landing page, the builder asks a language model for the words, and language models reach for the same phrases again and again. Read enough vibe coded sites and you start to hear it: everything is elevated
, unlocked
and seamless
.
Kitsuvo's detector counts these phrases as one signal among many. This guide shares the list we use, explains why a single phrase proves nothing, and shows what a fair reading looks like.
The phrases
These phrases turn up far more often in text written by language models than in text written by people. Kitsuvo's detector matches them as whole words:
- Lift and transformation:
elevate your
,transform your
,take your
…to the next level
,next-level
,supercharge
- Unlocking:
unlock your
,unlock the power
,harness the power
,unleash
- Smoothness:
seamless
,seamlessly
,effortlessly
,streamline
,intuitive
- Novelty:
cutting-edge
,revolutionize
,game-changer
,like never before
,built for the future
- Openers:
in today's fast-paced
,whether you're
,look no further
,say goodbye to
- Filler adjectives and verbs:
stunning
,robust
,leverage
,empower
,delve
,tapestry
- Self-description:
AI-powered
,all-in-one
,at your fingertips
,designed to help
,your journey
Put a few together and you get a sentence like this one, which no person has ever needed: Unlock your creativity with stunning designs and seamlessly elevate your brand to the next level.
Placeholders: the stronger tell
Phrases are a matter of taste. Placeholders are a matter of fact: someone shipped a template without filling it in. Look for:
- Testimonials from
John Doe
,Jane Doe
orJane Smith
Lorem ipsum
anywhere on the pageYour Company
,Company Name
orAcme
in the footer- Contact details like
123 Main Street
,hello@example.com
or(555) 123-4567
- A copyright year a year or two out of date on a site that otherwise looks brand new
- Round, unsourced claims such as
10,000+ happy customers
on a business that launched last month
A placeholder doesn't prove AI was involved, since human templates have them too, but on a site that also carries a builder fingerprint, it fills in the story: generated, published, never edited.
Why one phrase proves nothing
Copywriters wrote cutting-edge
and seamless
long before chatbots existed; language models learned these phrases from them. A single hit is noise. What separates AI-written copy is density: several of these phrases per paragraph, across every section of the page, in copy that otherwise says little about the actual business.
That is how Kitsuvo weighs it. It ignores fewer than three hits, counts the rest per thousand words, and caps how much the wording can add to the score. Copy can nudge a score up; the code and the hosting decide it.
Patterns beyond single phrases
- Triplets. Lists of exactly three benefits, three adjectives, three cards:
Fast, secure, and reliable.
- Headline formula. A verb, a noun, a promise:
Build faster. Ship smarter. Grow bigger.
- Vague specifics. Lots of adjectives and no prices, names, opening hours or places.
- Same voice everywhere. The about page, the FAQ and the privacy policy all sound like the hero section.
Why not just use an AI text detector?
Text detectors try to judge authorship from wording alone, and they are unreliable on exactly this kind of text: short, formulaic and edited. Researchers at Stanford found popular detectors flagged most essays by non-native English writers as AI-generated. Website copy is shorter and more formulaic than an essay. The study and OpenAI's withdrawn detector are covered in are AI content detectors accurate?
Build evidence doesn't have that problem. A Lovable runtime script in the source is there or it isn't. Use the wording to support what the code says, as described in how to tell if a website was made with AI, not as the verdict.
If you write website copy
If you used AI to draft your site and want it to sound like you, a quick pass helps: replace each phrase above with something specific to your business, cut adjectives that could describe any company, and add facts only you know, such as prices, names, places and how long you have been doing this. Readers trust specifics, and search engines increasingly reward pages that show first-hand knowledge.
We hold ourselves to the same rule. Every post on this blog is checked against the phrase list above before it is published.
Questions people ask
What words make writing sound like AI?
Common ones on websites are elevate
, unlock
, seamless
, cutting-edge
, empower
, delve
, robust
and to the next level
. Any of them alone is normal; many of them together, with few concrete facts, is the pattern.
Can you tell for certain if website text was written by AI?
No. Text alone can suggest it, but people can write the same way and AI text can be edited. Evidence of how the site was built, such as a builder's scripts or hosting, is far more reliable.
Does Google penalise AI-written content?
Google says it rewards helpful content however it was produced, and acts against content made mainly to manipulate rankings. In practice, generic AI copy tends to lack the specific, first-hand detail that helps pages rank.
